Metabolic inflammation is characterized by its slow, insidious, persistent, and interrelated nature. Without timely prevention and treatment, it may disrupt the homeostasis of the body, leading to metabolic disorders and interfering with energy balance. This can subsequently trigger obesity, metabolic syndrome, metabolic-related fatty liver disease, atherosclerosis, type 2 diabetes, and other difficult to treat conditions. With changes in human lifestyle and dietary structure, chronic metabolic diseases such as obesity have become a focus of global public health concern. As a trigger for the pathogenesis of these diseases, metabolic inflammation has become an important prevention and treatment strategy for metabolic diseases by blocking its occurrence and development. Current research has found that many medicinal and edible plants exhibit good anti-inflammatory effects, with advantages such as safety, stability, acceptability, low toxicity and side effects, and no drug resistance. This article aims to screen plants and their active ingredients from the directory of medicinal and edible plants that can alleviate inflammation and regulate metabolism. It summarized the relevant mechanisms of improving diet-induced metabolic diseases, providing a reference for further research on the prevention and treatment of metabolic diseases.
