      Genetically modified food belongs to novel food in Canada. There is no specific legislation or government office for the supervision on genetically modified food. The supervision on genetically modified food in Canadian government is focused on the product itself without involving the productive process, which based on the comprehensive pre-market safety assessment system and food labelling system. Genetically modified food must undergo rigorous pre-market safety assessment hosted by Health Canada, Environment Canada, Fishers and Oceans Canada, etc, before commercial sales. Health Canada and Canadian Food Inspection Agency supervise the genetically modified food in market through food labelling system. Canadian government won’t continue filed supervision on the approved genetically modified food. However, manufactures label genetically modified food voluntarily in Canada. The official limit of genetically modified ingredients is still undefined.
